So I went to my first ever concert last night.
It’s not that I never wanted to go. Concert tickets were just always out of reach growing up. The kind of thing the money never quite stretched to cover.
Now I’ve got a big boy adult job, which means big boy adult money, which means I can finally pay for big boy adult things.
Like concert tickets.
And for my very first one? Laufey. Laufey. I went with my girlfriend, obviously, because it’s Laufey. Could not have asked for a better first.
The night
Laufey was amazing! And it’s really nice to see her on stages this size; she’s come a long way, and it shows. Every night had its own surprise. Day 1 got I Wish You Love. Day 2 got BINI. Both very cool, no notes. But day 3, our day, got Magnolia. She sang Magnolia. And Castle in Hollywood. And Jollibee came out as a surprise guest. I’m just saying. We are clearly her favorites. Day 1 and 2 are going to have to make peace with that.
I went in expecting to be deaf for a week. I’d heard the horror stories of ringing ears and lost hearing and “you’ll never sound the same again.” Turns out the volume was just… right? Loud enough to feel it in your chest but not loud enough to melt your eardrums off.
And the crowd. Damn. Everyone dressed the hell up. Tulle, satin, pearls, little bows, the works. You don’t usually see this much effort at a concert. People came to look beautiful and cry to jazzpop. Best crowd I’ve ever been in (but only because it’s the only crowd I’ve ever been in).
Baseline set
So this is my baseline now. First concert ever, and it was kind of perfect. I don’t know how anything tops it, but I’m willing to find out. I’m going to more of these. A lot more.
Thanks for setting the bar, Laufey.
